I am currently pursuing a degree in Public Health and I plan to obtain my masters in Public Health or complete a Physician’s Associate program. During my junior and senior years of high school, I was selected to participate in the Virginia Beach City Public School’s Mental Health Task Force. The goal was to discuss the barriers and potential solutions to providing mental health care to students and faculty in our community. I was honored to contribute to the task force as one of few students amongst several administrators and healthcare professionals. I was able to provide valuable feedback from a student’s perspective and made many recommendations for change. I believe I was able to effectively communicate and articulate the specific mental health challenges and needs of students in our community. My involvement in this initiative is what pushed me to become a public health major.
