Q: After watching the video, write a journal entry about how you think the media influences our understanding about cybersecurity

A: What I have noticed while watching the video is how unrealistic movies, Tv shows and social media portray cybersecurity. For the most part, they depict hackers as super geniuses who can break into a system with little to no effort. This viewpoint is highly unrealistic, it takes effort to break into systems, and it could take days, months, or even years. Also, many hackers are “script kiddies”. Meaning they are not experienced in the field of hacking, and copy lines of codes from others. Also the media tends to glorify the image of cybersecurity as this action pack job, though in reality that is not the case. Sure there are times of excitement, but most times it is just like any 9-5 job, sitting in the office, doing daily tasks.
