When I completed the Social Media Disorder scale I found that I scored really low. I don’t use social media very much and even when I do, it is not something that I am always thinking about. I think a lot of the questions were interesting because even though I don’t have a problem with my social media use, I know a lot of people who do. So, reading questions about arguments being caused due to social media use, lying about it, prioritizing it above other things, tells me that social media use can be a true addiction. When someone is addicted to something then they become vulnerable to that thing. This is what hackers search for. A person that is constantly online and posting about their lives is more likely to accept friend requests from strangers or not thoroughly check out a duplicate friend request from someone they know. I think different patterns of both hacking and social media use are found around the world because there may be cultural norms that prevent someone from sharing personal things about themselves online or may even restrict their access to the internet in general. For hackers, their patterns can vary around the world due to societal influences and their peers. They learn and develop the skills that they have access to and use those skills in the best way they can from what they’ve learned from others in their social group.
