In Andriy Slynchuk’s article outlines 11 different things that are illegal to do on the internet. Many are seemingly innocent but can cause a lot of problems for you or even get you sued or arrested. There were 5 that stood out to me as being the most serious violations. Primarily, illegal searches on the internet are the most serious and cause the most harm to the most people. Searches such as child pornography, bomb making, or hiring assassins are among the most illegal, for good reason. All of those bring physical, emotional, and psychological harm to innocent people. The second serious violation he listed is collecting information about children, this is very serious for the same reason as the first. It puts innocent children in harms way. The third illegal online activity is sharing passwords, addresses, and photos of others. This violates the privacy of that person as well as advertises all of their personal information with people they may not want to be contacted by. Even if it that information is shared with good intentions, if the wrong people got ahold of that information then it could put them in serious danger. The fourth serious illegal online activity is bullying and trolling. This causes unnecessary mental anguish to those who are bullied or trolled online. It is a known fact that many kids who are bullied, whether online or in person, are more susceptible to suicide. The final illegal online activity that I feel is the most serious in that list is faking your identity online. This is a serious offense because it deceives people and may instill a false sense of security leading people to believe things that aren’t true. This allows people to let their guard down and do things or provide information that they otherwise wouldn’t.
