Assignment Takeaway – Social

Photograph Self-Assessment Assignment Takeaway #2

In doing this assignment, there was a striking self-awareness that the several photographs chosen showed me. I learned that a great many of my photographs are taken by other people and I am also usually not the only person in it. Whether it be my family, friends, or significant other, I’m usually either posed and smiling or making a goofy face. This is personally relevant as the photographs that I like and share with others are the ones where there is an event going on. This could possibly be my way of showing the rest of the world that I lead an interesting, happy life. I can apply the knowledge I learned from these photographs and implement them into my daily life. How do I want to come across not just in pictures, but in everyday life to people that I meet? If I invest more time into making myself more presentable, should I not also invest more time into working on my social skills and building up my relationships with those around me? Looking at how these photographs are taken by other people, I’m glad that it reflects how I am not a person that is particularly addicted to my phone. I enjoy living in the moment.

The chosen photograph is my current Facebook cover photo. This relates to how I personally do not take many photographs of myself, but instead adore pictures where I am present in a group of people. I think this photograph is very representative of myself: social, happy, adventurous, creative, a person who doesn’t live life too seriously, and a good friend. I find myself to be much happier when making others happy in my own unique way.

Heuristics Assignment Takeaway #1

In looking through the assigned reading and working through the assignment, my takeaway from it is that I am better able to understand how I think and how others think as well. From the assignment, I learned about representativeness, anchoring and adjustment, availability, and status quo heuristics. These are the various ways that a person processes information into making informed assumptions and behaviors. This was personally relevant to me because for a long time, the majority of my thoughts and behaviors were governed by status quo and representativeness heuristics. Status quo heuristics often prevented me from trying new things and keeping to myself while representativeness heuristics limited my interactions with others by only taking people from face value. Now, I am glad to see that although I use heuristics in more academic situations, I use these less when interacting with others. I now stray away from the status quo heuristic and am much more open minded to what the world has to offer me. Representativeness heuristics are no longer as relevant to me when interacting with others as I would instead learn ore about others by asking them direct questions instead.

The world map was chosen as my representative image because it relates to the endless possibilities that have opened up to me after straying from socially using the representativeness and status quo heuristics. Like the different places on the map, there are places that are good and bad, but I would never truly know until I am able to try getting there.
