I completed CYSE 407 in the Spring of 2023. This course introduced me to the foundational concepts and technologies of digital forensics. I learned about the responsibilities of a digital forensic investigator and the requirements for establishing and maintaining a proper lab environment. I gained hands-on experience with tools and methods for recovering and identifying digital artifacts left behind by cyberattacks. I also practiced preserving the integrity of digital evidence through forensically sound imaging techniques.
During the course, I analyzed various types of digital evidence to extract information relevant to investigations. I developed skills in preparing detailed forensic reports that clearly presented findings and results. I also worked on creating court presentation materials to communicate evidence effectively. These assignments helped me understand and apply the principles of digital forensics in practical scenarios.
This course strengthened my ability to collect, process, and preserve digital evidence from computers, mobile devices, networks, and cloud environments. It also enhanced my written and oral communication skills, which are essential for presenting forensic findings. I can apply this knowledge in future roles within cybersecurity, particularly in incident response, investigative analysis, or legal proceedings involving digital evidence.
