1- For money
I believe that the majority of cybercrimes are committed because of financial gain. Financial gain is a huge motive when it comes to individuals or groups committing cybercrime and this is why I believe that it makes the most sense to have at the first ranking. Money is the root of all evil, and cyber crimes are an evil force that are committed majorly because of the end goal being money.
2- Multiple Reasons
I believe that this also makes the second most important because having an environment that you grow up in that solely involves committing cyber crimes influences future behavior in the long run. When an individual is constantly surrounded with this type of behavior, they are not able to determine fully that what they are doing is not right, therefore they will do it without any sense of guilt. I also believe that cybercrimes can happen the most due to multiple reasons. It could be due to the fact that individuals want to achieve financial gain, along with revenge and political power. This can be seen a lot when it comes to many popular ransomware attacks.
3- Revenge
I believe that revenge is ranked at number three due to the fact that a lot of cyber crimes typically committed on social media are due to the idea of gaining revenge. Many of these instances are leaking of private information (phone number, address, email) to serious offenses like revenge pornography.
4- Political
I believe that political motives are ranked at number four because politics can be seen as a large motive when it comes to committing cybercrime, such as instances today where a lot of large spread attacks are due to political reasoning. Although politics are a huge factor of motives, I do not think they hold more weight rather than financial gain or revenge.
5- Entertainment
I believe that the motive of entertainment is always paired with another motive from the higher portion of the list. I believe that yes entertainment might be a motive, but I feel like revenge or financial gain is also a factor that is paired with the idea of an entertainment motive.
6- For recognition
I believe that when it comes to cybercrimes, individuals would rather not be known. Therefore I believe that recognition is not a very high motive. If an individual does commit a cybercrime for recognition, I definitely believe that they would also do it for financial gain as well.
7. Boredom
I believe that the idea of cybercrimes are very unlikely to be committed due to boredom. I feel that cybercrimes always have a particular motive to them and boredom is rarely the reason for committing them in my personal opinion.
