I am interested in cybersecurity because there have been plenty of cyber attacks that have effected both me and people I know and as technology continues to evolve I would like to have a general knowledge on how to protect myself if someone were to come after me again. Nearly a decade ago hackers were able to turn off both the Xbox and PlayStation online networks on Christmas right as tons of people including me were attempting to play their new games on their new consoles but were unable to thanks to these hackers. These hackers were even able to hold the online network hostage for a couple days demanding ransoms and to me it is quite impressive that a small group of people were able to hold multimillion dollar companies hostage that easily. This made me question whether or not both Xbox and Sony were simply unprepared for a cyber attack and did not have the hired people ready to fight back or if this hacker group were just that good at breaching companies. Cybercrime Major relates to cybersecurity by preparing students in law enforcement including cyber attacks and how these issues were resolved. Cyber operations relate to cybersecurity by dealing in the ethical and legal nature of cybersecurity with where it is ok and not okay to perform certain actions. Cybersecurity is the main bread and butter major as it helps teach students the skills that are necessary to to protect computer systems, companies, or any form of real online data. Enterprise cybersecurity deals with the companies and how they can all be at risk of a cyber attack occurring at any time and teaches students how to protect a company’s data and how to keep it safe if a cyber attack were to occur and attempt to steal data.
