With the increase in cyber technology has come the increase of workplace deviance. While workplace deviance can normally be benign, doing things such as browsing the internet or listening to music it can also be incredibly malicious with examples such as hacking or scamming a company or it’s employees. A type of workplace deviance is that of cyber deviance in which someone intentionally uses technology in the workplace with the desire to hurt the overall wellness of the business or it’s employees. One reason why workplace deviance has increased is due to a lack of understanding on why people would use technology in a deviant way. Currently there is a bunch of different ideas and theories that attempt to explain this issue but the overall problem being that there is not much of a connection with the psychological process of these behaviors. As the use of technology in many different fields continues to increase there will also continue to be an increase in workplace deviance as long as there is little understanding about workplace deviance and the threats posed by it. One form of cyber deviance is cyber slacking in which the user is normally doing something nonharmful like watching videos or listening to music and does not require much technical skill to do and thus has little impact to the company. Computer abuse is where activities become illegal performing actions such as hacking into a computer to steal private information or spreading a virus onto company computers with the intent to do harm. Cyber aggression has the same amount of technical skill as computer abuse but comes with the intent to do harm or intimidate an employee to affect their job performance. The unauthorized use and access of technology is more in line with cyber slacking in which someone gains unauthorized access to some system they should not be going anywhere near.
