When developing classroom rules, using a classroom constitution would be beneficial. Being that the specific content area I plan on teaching is history, it would fit the content in the classroom. “This annual process of rule-making provides teachers with a unique opportunity to introduce the youngest of students to the U.S. Constitution and its Bill of Rights.” (Southern Poverty Law Center, 2019) This will be used in the classroom by having a poster on the wall that is visible for students to see every time they enter the classroom. Not only that, but while creating these rules together as a class, there would be a note made to show that if they don’t oblige by the rules there will be consequences. The use of a classroom constitution would allow students to be involved and help create a comfortable classroom environment for not just themselves but me the instructor as well. This also allows for students to be held accountable for their actions since they are the ones creating the rules for the classroom. This also helps students prepare for the real world being that students will have to follow the constitution in real life, also it helps create the appropriate language for the content area of history, which can also give the classroom a “spinoff” to the actual constitution.
