CYSE 201S Journal Entry #14

Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things internet users do that may be illegal. Review what the author says and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious.

The five violations I find most serious are:

  • Sharing Passwords, Addresses, or Photos of Others
  • Bullying and Trolling
  • Recording a VoIP Call Without Consent.
  • Collecting Information About People Younger Than 13
  • Illegal Searches on the Internet

Sharing passwords, addresses, or photos of others is a serious breach of privacy and can lead to identity theft, stalking, or other forms of harm. Bullying and trolling contribute to a toxic online environment, causing emotional distress and potentially leading to severe consequences for the victims. Recording a VoIP call without consent infringes upon individuals’ right to privacy, raising ethical and legal concerns. Collecting information about people younger than 13 without proper consent violates child protection laws and exposes minors to potential risks. Lastly, illegal searches on the internet can involve activities like hacking or accessing confidential information, posing a threat to digital security and privacy. These offenses are serious as they compromise individual privacy, contribute to online harm, and often involve legal consequences due to their invasive nature.
