Boy Scouts of America – Eagle Scout.
During my sophomore year of high school, I noticed a problem within the community among the senior citizens. During the winter months, most of them had to choose between buying their food or their medications. While agencies like the Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens existed, there were still not enough resources available to help them.
Over the course of two months, I organized an information campaign that involved going live on WCYB news, a local AM radio station, advertisements in the newspaper, and I was even able to get a few of my friends who were in a band to host a benefit concert for me, to take up non-perishable food items and cash donations to give to the agency and keep the supply going. In two months, I collected 3,124 pounds of canned food for the agency to distribute to those in need and provided $1,000 for them to keep the supply going.
