I am currently enrolled in Communications 462 Sports Strategic Communication and am excited about this class. I have been a fan of sport since I arrived in this world. As a toddler, my Father used to prop me up on the couch next to him every Sunday. I used to sit there with my eyes glued to the screen, watching NFL games with no comprehension of what was happening. Sports were in my DNA, both as a fan and an athlete. I played competitive travel baseball from ages 4 to 12, and then switched to soccer and played at a travel level for around 4 years. I then finished my athletic career playing football for my high school for a year. Sports has been involved in my life and taught me many life lessons that shaped me into the person I am today. Sports taught me leadership skills, social skills, stress management skills, and many other essential qualities for a successful life, on top of keeping me in good physical shape. I dedicated a large portion of my life to sports and never thought about my life without sports. As I got older, I had to make certain decisions and change some of my habits because life was getting more serious; I needed money and couldn’t just focus on entertaining myself, and I knew I did not have any future as an athlete. Now, in my third year of college, I was registering for classes and came across a Sports Strategic Communications class and had to take the opportunity. I love watching, reading, and learning about sports rituals and fandoms. I enjoy connecting with people through sports via conversations, sports group chats, and Twitter feeds; I love it all. I look forward to the work I will do in this class and combining education with sport. Finally, if there is one thing to remember when reading my articles, I am a die-hard New York sports fan: New York Jets, New York Mets, and, of course, the New York Knicks. This is essential information because some of my ideologies may seem delusional, so remember, I am a fan of New York teams, so I am pretty delusional by nature.
