Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

Four majors that relate to cybersecurity are computer science, information technology, computer engineering, and criminal justice majors.

Computer science majors learn code which can be a great tool for understanding cybersecurity. Learning code language is vital because it gives you more of an understanding of how software works, how the computer works, and makes you a better ethical hacker. Knowing code can be beneficial towards understanding malicious code such as malware attacks. Computer science majors can also learn about operating software, and algorithms. These also can help with cyber security understanding. Computer science is learning crucial information that can be translated into the cybersecurity field.

Another degree that can be beneficial is information technology. Cyber security experts would like people to have information technology experience to get a basic understanding of computer technology and business. This helps with understanding networks, software, and understanding hardware of computers. Networks are crucial to understand because networks are important to protect, and you may be working with networks at your job. Hardware is important because it can help you understand physical computers and components that need to be protected such as servers and hard drives.

Computer engineering is really good because it is a combination of computer science and engineering, so you really get a technical understanding of software, microprocessors, circuits, and routers. These are important for cyber security because you have all knowledge on the physical hardware that is used to protect, and to penetrate. They can develop strategies to defend against hackers. These majors also work with software and get a good understanding of it.

Criminal justice majors can relate to cyber security through law and investigations. This major can lead to investigations of cybercrime such as identity theft, creating policies, and hackers. If a computer gets seized for example, criminal justice majors may confiscate the hard drive for evidence of crime.
