1. Described five businesses or non-profits that have been created in my field?

In the field of cybersecurity, countless businesses and non-profits have been created, and it appears that their numbers are only increasing with each passing year. For instance, the Cybercrime Support Network is a nonprofit organization that was established to address the challenges faced by victims of cybercrime. Another example is CyberNB, a Canadian non-profit that promotes collaboration among various sectors to advance cybersecurity in Canada. Additionally, there is H-ISAC, which stands for Health Information Sharing and Analysis Center. This organization provides stakeholders with a trusted platform for coordinating cybersecurity threats and intelligence. Another notable entity is the San Diego Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, which aims to accelerate the city’s cyber economy and position it as a global hub for cyber innovation. Lastly, there is CIS, the Center for Internet Security, renowned globally for its best practices and security tactics.

2. What is your overall perspective on the entrepreneurship experience?

The overall experience is great and filled with valuable information. Understanding the fundamentals of business and how to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors is at the core of the experience. ODU offers numerous programs that provide guidance to students and assist them in shaping their ideas into reality, all within the campus space. My experience could not have been better because I was paired with group members who had the same academic backgrounds as me, creating a cohesive team of like-minded individuals who worked well together.

3. How did entrepreneurship prepare or not prepare you to be a competitive candidate for vacant positions?

Being prepared is essential in entrepreneurship as it allows you to anticipate and mitigate potential risks and challenges. It equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to adapt to changing market conditions and capitalize on emerging opportunities. Being prepared instills confidence in your abilities and showcases your expertise to potential employers. It enhances your credibility and professionalism, demonstrating your commitment to continuous learning and growth. Ultimately, being prepared through entrepreneurship gives you a competitive edge and increases your chances of securing vacant positions.

4. What suggestions do you have to improve the experience?
Personally, there isn’t much that I would suggest to improve the experience, except for incorporating more video presentations. I find it easier to learn through engaging video content rather than reading text. While there wasn’t much of it initially, I truly enjoyed the video format, and I’m grateful for the extent to which it was utilized throughout the semester.

5. What’s next for you?

Since this is my last semester until I graduate, I have planned a few things I’d like to accomplish. The main thing I want to do is obtain a few certifications. This will allow me to better understand the real-world applications of the knowledge I gained at ODU and position myself for job opportunities that require qualified individuals. Lastly, I intend to pursue a position at Amazon Web Services, as it aligns well with my experience and knowledge over the years.
