SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

I anticipated this class to be the most challenging thing I had ever done. I was raised speaking English and Twi as my only language. I was so anxious on my first day. I recall Professor Fermin posing a question to me in Spanish, and I had no idea what he was getting at. Over the following weeks, I gradually gained a comprehension of Spanish. I was always eager to use a new phrase or word that I had learned. I’ll share what I’ve learned with my friends, and we’ll all put it to good use. I would use flashcards to help me understand the language better. My learning process was greatly helped by Lingrolearning. Speaking Spanish might be challenging, particularly when I roll my tongue to pronounce some words.

Engaging in Communities

Back at home, I work with a lot of Hispanics. After learning Spanish, I can communicate better with them and have a better work environment.

Interpersonal Communication

Language students can practice their conversational skills with native speakers using Lingrolearning’s online platform. This semester, I used Lingrolearning to practice speaking Spanish. Through discussion boards and peer review of written assignments, I participated in interpersonal writing activities outside of Lingrolearning. These exercises helped me communicate in Spanish more effectively both orally and in writing. Participating in Lingrolearning dialogues has been both challenging and enjoyable for me. I initially found it difficult to continue the dialogue due to my limited vocabulary and grammatical knowledge. But as we spoke more, I felt more at ease and confident in my Spanish-speaking abilities. I learned how to actively listen to my spouse and to ask them for clarification when I needed it. I was very good at expressing myself through circumlocution when I didn’t know a word. I came to realize how important it is to have the flexibility to adjust my Spanish to fit different regional dialects.

Presentational Writing

After some thought, I realized that my Spanish writing skills have greatly improved. I’ve improved my ability to express myself clearly and concisely while using the right words and terminology. However, I still find it challenging to use idiomatic expressions and more intricate grammar rules. To help me overcome this difficulty, I have been practicing with phrase structures that are progressively more difficult and receiving feedback from my classmates and the lecturer.

One area in which I really excelled throughout this exercise was the incorporation of cultural insights and specifics into my writing.I might change the text’s organization and structure to make it more understandable and adaptable. In the future, I’d spend more time studying more challenging grammar rules and sentence structures and pay closer attention to how my work is organized.

Presentational Speaking

When I reflect on this presentation, I see that one of the biggest difficulties was organizing our ideas and presenting them in a compelling manner. We had to make sure that we adhered to the time limit and that everyone in the group had an equal opportunity to speak. But we get around these problems by splitting up the research and refining our individual parts before coming together for a group rehearsal.

I wish I had spent more time working on my intonation and pronunciation to make my speech more fluid and natural. In the future, I’d put more emphasis on speaking slowly and clearly and enhancing the grammar and vocabulary of my presentations.

Interpretive Listening

The majority of our listening exercises were done on LingroLearning. Here, the audio and the visuals are synchronized. They aided in my understanding of the events depicted in the pictures. They could speak more slowly because we are all beginners and speaking quickly won’t help us understand. It’s going to confuse us.

Interpretive Reading

Overall, reading articles and stories in Spanish and engaging in interpretative communication activities have helped me advance in my language learning process by expanding my vocabulary and understanding. I’ve learned how to approach new information with an open mind and a desire to learn, and I’m eager to continue developing my skills.
