Journal Summary 2
Completing the editing skills checklist is not helpful to me. I think it is complicated with having to know what each number means, it is extra work. Our professor gives us sheets of papers to look at that explains everything we need to know but it is easy to get lost and confused, Although I feel it is unnecessary to do the checklist it has shown my progress as I write each essay. Personally, I love getting feedback on my work, so I can fix it the next time. With the editing checklist being online and having a bunch of numbers and x’s, I would not refer back to it while writing an essay. I feel the checklist will only distract me and make me over think my work. For example, without me looking back on my previous essay’s checklist, so far I have already shown growth in my writing. Knowing my mistakes that I have done already, I try to avoid them in my future essays. That method has been working for me so that is what I stick to. I complete the editing skills checklist because it is a part of my grade. It is only beneficial to keep track of whether your essays are getting better. In all reality, I do not think any student takes the time to go back and look at their strengths and weakness on the checklist. As individuals, I think we should already know what we are good at and what needs to be worked on. I like that my professor tells me what I can improve on and just does not just mark punctuations. The numbers shes notes indicate exactly what I did, which is helpful but putting it on a checklist is irrelevant. Overall I think the checklist does not help my writing progress throughout the course.
