This experience gives me the opportunity to learn more about cybersecurity in a hands-on environment while applying concepts from my classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My Experience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a Student SOC member, I am continuing to learn how a Security Operations Center operates and how cybersecurity professionals monitor and respond to security events. I am gaining experience with tools such as CrowdStrike, IBM QRadar, and PagerDuty while learning how they are used to identify and investigate potential security issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since I am still working in the SOC, I am continuing to develop my technical and problem-solving skills. Each shift gives me an opportunity to learn something new and become more comfortable working with cybersecurity tools and processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Skills I Am Developing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the Student SOC, I am working on developing skills in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Security monitoring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Log and event analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incident response<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Troubleshooting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Team communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Problem-solving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using cybersecurity tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What I Hope to Gain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My time in the Student SOC is an ongoing learning experience. As I continue working with the team, I hope to build a stronger understanding of security operations and gain more experience handling real-world cybersecurity situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also hope this experience will help me figure out which areas of cybersecurity interest me the most and prepare me for future internships and cybersecurity positions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student Security Operations Center Overview I am currently a member of the Old Dominion University Student Security Operations Center (SOC).
