Reflection Paper # 2
At this point in my internship, I have done a lot of cool things on the side of Information Security. One of my most proud and somewhat exciting projects I have worked on is creating a robust and detailed network diagram for a small business. When I was tasked with this assignment, I was a bit lost at first in what my supervisor envisioned. My first two drafts were a bit simplified, and she gave a few examples of how it should be done. I was slightly frustrated in my understanding, but in the end my finished product was worth it. Each endpoint and server had their protocols and applications as well as ports color-coded as if it could be used in an actual infrastructure.
On top of my specific Internship Work, I have been attending intern events at the Library of Virginia, which have mostly been intern lunches with specific departments at the library. My favorite Intern Lunch I’ve gone to so far has been with the department executives at LVA. They gave great advice about working for a state agency as well as some good skills you need to learn to put yourself into leadership roles. This is something that was very important to me because I plan on moving towards leadership positions in my Cybersecurity Career.
Another project I have just completed is a presentation for all the Library Staff on the topics outlined in the Library’s Information Security Policy. Finding ways to engage people in topics of Information Security was particularly difficult as well as the continuous policy reading to gain information.
