Writing Reflection 1
Coming into college I had it set in my mind that I was terrible at writing. Taking this class, I realized I had the correct information to construct a proper essay; I was never taught how to properly use the information to put the essay together. So far this semester, I have learned how to construct the different paragraphs within an essay. I also learned how to build a good thesis statement and how to reiterate it in the concluding paragraph. Learning these different techniques helped to improve my writing in essay two. Being required to attend writing review sessions has also enhanced my writing skills. Going to those sessions have pointed out mistakes in my writing that me myself or my peer reviewer did not notice or did not recognize as a writing mistake. I believe that university 150 has also taught me to slow down and take time to review and go over my paper and look at every little detail. In essay one I had quite a few strengths as well as weaknesses. I started this essay with the mindset knowing I would struggle tremendously. While writing the essay, I realized that I was struggling the most with constructing my sentences and trying not to be repetitive with my information. After having turned the paper in to be graded my teacher pointed out quite a few other weaknesses within my paper. These weaknesses were as follows: not a clear thesis, weak development of the paper, weak explanations or lack thereof, wrong word choice, subject/verb agreement, and punctuation. In essay two I showed a couple of the same weaknesses. The weaknesses in essay two were development, punctuation, and spelling. Essay 2 had less corrections to be made to it. I did better on essay two and this helps to reflect the improvement in my writing.
