According to the Open Access Article of 2016, the United States is the target of more than half of reported phishing attacks (OA 2016). The risk of being a target of phishing is less significant in France or Greece (Statista 2021). However, worldwide there is a plethora of spam risks. Any email that is opened has a chance of being either a spam email or a phishing attempt. Spam emails can present themselves as a harmless email or something sent from a store you shop at. Clicking on the links located in these emails may subject one to a virus or a vulnerability. These emails may even have a similar looking domain to the one of the stores or websites. Another cybersecurity risk is the advance fee fraud. The advance fee fraud mostly stems from and takes place in Nigeria and is subject to kidnapping if the attacker lures the victim to their residing town (OA 2016). If the attacker successfully lures the victim and kidnaps them, they will then be held for ransom. The advance fee fraud schemes are also prevalent in America as well. The advance fee fraud schemes in America however usually result in the loss of money. In terms of viruses, The United Kingdom suffers from a lot of malware and virus incidents. Compared to the United States of America, the United Kingdom has a significantly less amount of malware attacks. In 2018, the United Kingdom had 583.8 million malware attacks whereas the United States had 5092.9 million malware attacks (Statista 2021). The United States is the most targeted country for cyber-attacks. This is partially because here in the United States, we rely on the internet a lot. Whereas in other countries, not so much. Due to our dependability on the internet, the technology in the U.S tends to be more advanced and up to date thus causing us to be a target.
