Workplace Deviance is the intentional attempt to sabotage an organization by causing internal problems for the company. Cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance by giving the employees a social way to communicate. These social ways include social media, forums, blogs etc. By employees having these social opportunities there could occur problems in the workplace. One of these problems could be cyberbullying. Having social media allows for employees to leave comments, opinions, remarks, etc. They also have the ability to create group chats or private messages within the apps/websites. Cyberbullying or altercations can create rifts in the workplace and make it difficult for certain employees to communicate, collaborate, or even work near each other. This can affect the worth ethic or capability to get work done and can destroy the workplace from the inside out. Another way that cyber technology has created opportunities is by blogs and ratings. If an employee gets reprimanded during work and they express ill feelings about it on the blog such as leaving a bad review from an anonymous or fake name, or files a hateful report about the company, internal issues may occur. Depending on what company it is, and the severity of the complaint depends on how badly the company is affected. For example, if an employee creates a fake blog post/review under the company’s page claiming that the company stole/sold their credit card information, that could be very bad for the company and will open an investigation but also devalue the company. Cyber technology also created opportunities for workplace deviance by giving employees something to delete. If a company has important documents stored on a device a recently reprimanded or fired employee could delete the important files out of retaliation. The use of cyber technology in the workplace creates for jealousy opportunities and workplace deviance that can thus ruin the whole establishment.
