In UNIV 150 the first five weeks have been very interesting. I had to complete 5 journals, my first essay, and do the first online quiz. Also, I had my first peer review and had to do a presentation. All these things have helped me become a better writer in one way or another. Each assignment helped benefit different skills in my writing.

Journals have always been something that I have found to be on the easier side of assignments. They don’t take very long and when I would receive one back it would always help me correct my mistakes for future journals. In my journals I had a couple of issues. Those issues were, lack of apostrophes, word choice, comma placement. If I had never gotten back those journals, I probably would still be making those mistakes repeatedly. Journals helped me look at these mistakes and fix them for any future assignment given.

Peer review is something that I had never thoroughly done before college. I did not do it very often in high school because our teacher did not really encourage it. Peer review has helped my writing immensely. When I would give someone my paper, they would find a lot of little mistakes I didn’t notice. Any student I would give it to in class would also give insight on different ways I could improve the essay. That helped me a lot on how I look at my essay and how I reviewed other students’ essays.

Transitioning to college writing and a college course has felt easier than I expected. At first when I came into college, I was worried the work load and the writing assignments would be much harder compared to high school. I learned quickly that is not that case at all. Writing has become something that I find much easier to do. I feel much more comfortable with writing papers with the aid of all the assignments we have done for the first five weeks. Each assignment makes me feel more comfortable with writing.

The first five weeks have been a different experience of writing than I had before. Journals helped me out a lot with finding my concurrent mistakes in my papers. Peer review helped me get a lot more insight on how my essays were viewed by others and help find mistakes I missed on my first read through it. Those assignments have helped the transition to college writing even easier. Every assignment has helped improve and made me enjoy writing more. All three of those factors have helped my writing for the future and helped any types of problems I had previously with writing.
