The course objectives that I feel I have achieved the most are to understand cultural diversity and the impact it has on human life as well as developing a greater understanding of people from other cultures and the skills for successfully interacting with them. I believe I have achieved these two because I have noticed a change in the way I interact with my peers and my coworkers. I have become more understanding of their actions, and have found a better way to interact, communicate, and cooperate with them. Before taking this course, social psychology never crossed my mind. I originally took this course because I wanted to know how people in other cultures thought. This course helped me realize that you cannot learn all there is you need to know from reading the textbook or the articles presented to us throughout the course; you have get experience. If I were to take this class again, I would study more efficiently, and complete all of my assignments ahead or time. I would also keep up with the chapters better. I found that this semester I focused on completing assignments rather than reading the chapters. Instead I would put an equal amount of time into both because I have read to know what I am discussing in the assignments given to me. Before taking this course, I overwhelmed myself with classes which ultimately caused a lot of stress. Now I know that it is okay to not be overwhelmed with classes and school work. I found it easier to take less classes, so that I could complete all of my assignments on time. Thus, I grew academically in the aspect that I started to take my time completing assignments, but started early enough to turn them in on time. I always thought I worked better under pressure, but I have realized that I overwork myself when I am rushing. The skill I have gained from this course is understanding. There have been a lot of times where my misunderstanding of where people are coming from and what they mean have hindered my relationships with people. Now that I have almost mastered understanding I will apply it in my professional life by carefully listening to detail and paying attention to instructions. I will also strive to understand someone else’s perception rather than shutting them out because we perceive things differently.
