Leadership Skills
I received unmatched experience leading an inter-professional educational (IPE) collaboration between fellow public health graduate students, dental hygiene students, and physical therapy students. This diverse experience tested my ability to collaborate with colleagues across the country and other parts of the world to accomplish various objectives. Communication with those with the diverse background was a rewarding experience. Together, we produced quality work that included an executive summary and a PowerPoint presentation which we all successfully presented. I worked closely with knowledgeable group members and used each of our expertise to achieve quality deliverables. I provided critical guidance on compiling the deliverables, having constructive meetings, and utilizing collaborative software to streamline our productivity. This experience taught me how to be a successful leader in a collaborative work environment. IPE collaborations produced a brochure for patients to be educated on diabetes when sent home from a clinic. A second collaboration was intended for an audience of stakeholders in implementing a mobile community dental clinic. This included making strong arguments for funding such an endeavor, eliminating conflicts of interest with the community health center, and identifying the neediest communities to treat.
