I chose Cybersecurity as a new major because I wanted to stay in the stem field. Previously, I was majoring in Civil engineering and I had gone into it with the mindset that I wouldn’t change it. After my last semester, I was struggling to keep up with the rigor of the courses and eventually agreed with myself to change majors before I end up wasting too much money having to retake classes. I chose Cybersecurity because of the classes I took in high school. In high school, we learned some basics in code with Python and other coding software. My Dad also works in a field where he does similar things, so I figured if I do anything, I’d do something where I can get reliable advice from. I’d say that that is where a lot of my inspiration comes from. Since my dad has helped me with anything about that I started doing my own research on the topic and decided to switch to this major over civil engineering (not that the classes were getting pretty difficult). I already know that some of the coding that we may have to learn may be difficult but I felt that because I’ve done some coding type of projects in the past, id be able to handle It as it comes to me. Something else that jumped out to me was the flexibility of the entire cyber pathway. I liked how in cyber it is more important that you earn your certifications for your future and your college degree isn’t as important in this field compared to in the engineering field. Since I had learned of that, I took some steps toward being able to take those certs and understanding which ones would e the most important ones to get for the betterment of my future.
