CYSE 201S – Cybersecurity and Social Sciences

These photos and the video reflect my perspective that cybersecurity isn’t just a technical issue — it’s a social one. It involves people’s behaviors, relationships, ethics, and communities. Social sciences help us understand why cybercrimes happen and how they affect society, while technical skills help us detect, prevent, and respond to those crimes.

This class has taught me that cybersecurity is about way more than just technology — it’s deeply connected to people, society, and behavior. I’ve learned how social sciences help explain why people commit cybercrimes, how misinformation spreads, and how digital threats impact different communities in unique ways. It showed me how important it is to understand human behavior, ethics, and social systems when creating cybersecurity solutions. Overall, this course made me realize that protecting digital spaces means protecting people too, and that the two fields are more connected than I ever expected.
