Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
In Spanish 102 we learned how to communicate words related to Transportation and Lodging, Days of the week, Months, Seasons, and Weather expressions, Shopping, Clothing, Colors, Numbers 101 and higher, Daily routine and personal hygiene, Food, Orders at restaurants, Discuss people and places, talked about cultural differences and influences. This semester taught me a lot, and I can’t wait until I travel to a Spanish-speaking country. Spanish 102 assignments we had to view readings, watch videos, and speak with native speakers.

In this picture above, we watched a culture video and completed the activity to help us understand more about Hispanic food places and they were located in Los Angeles, California. They had dishes like Tacos, Chicken, Fish, Rice, Inca kola ( like coca-cola), Expresso, and Plantains that represent different cultures like Cubans, Mexicans, and Latinos. They also have supermarkets that sell these foods so that people can continue to eat as in their country. I learned that we have places like Los Angeles in America that allow us to find Hispanic food places so we should try it.
Engaging in Communities
Learning more about Spanish will allow me to speak to more people and now I love Spanish even more. While I’m on vacation or either at work, I will be able to speak with someone in their native language. While being in this class, I have met with Spanish-speaking natives that are tutors and we practiced speaking Spanish and we reviewed lessons from class. The link below is a transcript of my tutoring session on tutor.com. We were going over Direct object nouns and pronouns, Comparing ser and estar, The present progressive, Estar with conditions and emotions. The tutor sent me an image of a chart that was helpful for me to compare ser and estar.

Interpersonal Communication
TalkAbroad was used to talk to Spanish-speaking natives. The discussion boards were practice activities that allowed us to communicate with classmates and work on our writing skills. We did speaking activities either with a partner or by ourselves, and I did most of them independently.
The link below will take you to my Youtube, and you will able to hear me answering questions from Valeria.
Doing the individual virtual chat helped me be able to communicate with others in Spanish. Last semester I did okay, but this semester I feel confident in my speaking and I found myself speaking fluently. The discussion boards were easy because I had time to plan what I wanted to write. Doing these assignments has helped me be able to speak Spanish fluently and I am happy!
Presentational Speaking
I had done a chat activity in VHL and had to be completed in Spanish. I had to answer questions about vacations and hobbies that I like.
I liked this recording because I pronounced my words better than the last semester. Before I do my recordings I like to plan what will be said and I feel like I sound confident when I’m speaking Spanish, the more I completed these chats. These chats helped me in the long run and helped me become better when it comes to my second language.
Presentational Writing
We were required to view and choose a partner from TalkAbroad then tell our classmates our partner’s name, age, what he/she likes, hobbies, movies, music, and etc. Once we had all that information about our partner, we discussed this with our classmates using the discussion board.

The discussion board was easy and I enjoyed finding a partner that had the same interests as me but I was glad to be able to read my fellow classmates’ comments about their tutor.
Interpretive Listening
This semester, we listened to a couple of video clips and one of the videos I liked was called ” Lesson 5 Video 1: ¡Vamos a la playa!” This was about a family and some friends trying to figure out what the weather will be like because they were planning a vacation/ trip on the beach. The link to the video will be below!
Interpretive listening helped me be able to understand someone that speaks Spanish. If I didn’t understand some words being used I would watch the characters and listen to them so I can understand the Spanish conversations. The videos were beneficial, and I still watch Spanish videos in my spare time.
Interpretive Reading
We had different entries to read this semester and every chapter helped me read Spanish better. These readings were from our book and after each reading, there are questions about each section.

This interpretive reading assignment was about learning how to shop for clothes and determine the cost of each item. We had to determine whether each statement was true or false based on the clothing website picture. This assignment helped me learn different directory clothing and shoe items with prices. I did an excellent job! The photo above is a screenshot of the activity from VHL Supersite, and the book is from AVENTURAS Fifth Edition Textbook, Authors: José A. Blanco & Philip Redwine Donley
