Essay #1
I believe that my high school English teachers did not prepare me for college. My English teachers in high school were more worried about following the curriculum than actually teaching us what we needed to further our education for college. When I was in high school, I was being given easy worksheets that help with grammar, but those worksheets weren’t enough to prepare me for college-level grammar. In college, I take UNIV 150 three days out of the week, and l have to try and keep up with my work while also teaching myself the material. I can already tell that college will be much more intense than high school English and that I will need to work a lot harder.
In high school, I was one of the students that expected the teacher to pass us by doing very little. There were rules set concerning homework, grades, attendance, and overall behavior. Now that I am in college, I am free to do whatever I want with time and my education. In high school, the teachers wanted students to pass, while the college professors could care less if you pass their class, and it’s all up to students if they want to learn the material. The professors are responsible to teach us, but it’s our responsibility to take it and do something productive. More writing is going to be expected of me each year, and my English professor expects most writing assignments to be completed outside of class.
For the most part, high school did have the necessary programs to prepare students for English in college. At my high school, they provided AP and College Credit Plus course that was excellent for helping students experience college like courses. Unfortunately, I didn’t take advantage of the college courses because I felt as if it would’ve been too much for me at the time. Looking back at the past I wish I had taken those courses because it could’ve helped me be more prepared for college. So in conclusion students that take college courses will be prepared, but if they only take the classes they need for the curriculum they will be struggling.
I’m not saying my high school didn’t prepare me for college English because they didn’t teach me the fundamentals of being a successful student. I’ve learned from my failures and successes in high school, which can help my decisions academically in college. Everything from writing to reading assignments was all taught in high school, but not at a level to prepare me for college. In college, I’m treated like an adult while in high school I was still being catered to as a child. So in conclusion, high school did not prepare me for the fast pace and work in college.

While doing a research project it can be filled with active and engaged learning, it influences students to research a particular subject and having a deeper understanding. A research project can push students to spend more time studying the collection of resources as it would help their growing knowledge about the subject becomes more complex. Research also proves that students are more likely to remember the knowledge they gained through this approach far more than the traditional textbook learning. When students are involved in applying what they had studied can help answer questions, solve problems, and other activities beyond just receiving content, learning can improve as well as motivation for learning.
The best kind of research projects is when students can add personal interests and their commitment to a specific area of study. Students can use the library to do more research or record key ideas and information on note cards or in a log. Develop a list of all sources at the same time that the sources are consulted. Depending on the subject and the specifics of the course project, students need to develop a sense of the role they need to play for the particular research assignment. students probably have more information than they need and have been thinking about their opening research question in a variety of ways, leading to some initial ideas that can be used as an initial thesis statement. Writing a research paper can help students improve their reading and writing skills and also critical evaluation.
Teachers assign a research project because it requires a lot of reading of complex text from multiple sources, which students must understand, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate. These tasks are more worldly than merely summarizing an article for a report, students would have to reflect the complex work demands of college and career. Real research deals with deeper and broader issues than finding isolated facts. Students must learn to think of research as understanding profound and complex issues and applying their knowledge into a project. The research paper provides a structured and independent opportunity for students to pursue some extended parts of the course material. By reviewing notes with the same keywords, students can synthesize the material into an organized plan for the paper. Teachers can explore their students’ understanding, interpretation, and synthesis of their reading, discuss their choice of sources and note taking strategies, evaluate their work in stages, and model ethical paraphrasing and summary skills.
