Primary Research Project

This is a primary research paper about how and why people use the Safe Ride van service. The purpose of this assignment was to conduct firsthand research through methods like surveys, interviews, or observations to learn more about a specific topic in our community. For my project, I focused on understanding student’s attitudes, habits, and motivations when using the Safe Ride van an on-campus service designed to help students travel safely at night.

Scholarly Research Project

This scholarly research project on cybercrime awareness in secondary schools helped me improve several important academic skills. Through reading and analyzing various sources about cybercrime and digital safety, I learned how to think more critically about the issues affecting students today.

Rhetorical Remix Project

This is a primary research paper about the usage of the Safe Ride van service on campus but with a twist. Instead of presenting the findings in a purely traditional academic tone, I chose to remix the project using satire. By incorporating humor and exaggeration, I aimed to make the topic more engaging while still highlighting real patterns, behaviors, and insights gathered during the research process.

Completing the primary research took time but I managed to get it done. The process of it all was observing how many people ride the ODU safe ride vans. I practiced my research skills by observing at different times to see when most people rode the van. I can use this in the future by observing things to see if I notice a pattern. Passages in my writing that best illustrate my critical thinking are when I started to estimate how many vans dropped off the students. I added statistics in there, including math. I will say that this project did help me to develop more of my writing and communication skills because I put my thoughts in my primary research project on what the school communities can do for students on campus to help better support ODU and making it safer for students. Something I want to do differently in the future is conduct a survey how many people ride the safe ride vans to get a rough estimate rather than looking to see who comes out of the van.
