Looking back at my first blog I could see how excited and optimistic I was about taking this class. I defiantly learned a lot from this class and a lot about myself this semester. The biggest challenge being setting your own schedule and sticking to it. That was my biggest weakness this entire semester spanning all my classes. My feeling to this class remain the same as any form of psychology is interesting to learn about. From this class I learned about how we present ourselves to people and groups that we strive to fit in with. With all I have learned I have improved in how I present myself to others.

I have learned a lot in social psychology this semester. One of the biggest things I learned about were the types of love and how they effect people. In assignment 3 I saw how deep seated racism can affect people and crowds with Michael Richards racist tirade at the comedy club. How women are unfairly compared to an unrealistic standard of beauty. In my blog post 7 being able to self regulate and calm can be applied to assignment 3. If Mr. Richards had taken a moment to breathe and calm down he would not have said such harsh words. As mentioned in blog 3 music is very important part of everyone’s life. There are many different forms and taste’s that people like that have developed over the years. Without the evolution of music and theories of music we could still be listening to church hymns as are main and only source of music.

Being able to self regulate is a very important skill to have. Being able to clam down before acting on an impulsive emotion can prevent further mental or physical harm from being inflicted. When someone says something mean to you or cuts you off in traffic the normal reaction is to get mad. Being able to clam down and not run the other person off the road a healthy coping style.

Ads have always shown unrealistic standards for men and women across the world. It has been known that photoshop has drastically changed the new standard of beauty for women. There is little to no way that people can live a normal life and look that way. Sex sells is a common way of thinking when it comes to ads. What shocked me is that younger aged people are now being targeted with sexual related topics. I understand targeting older adults or young adults but trying to sell to children forcing them into stereotypical roles is wrong.

In Picture A is hand sanitizer. We all know and trust hand sanitizer as it helps kill harmful bacteria. During Covid hand sanitizer became much more important. In the ad it mentions coronavirus which is using a slight fear appeal. Picture B is of Coca-Cola and says” open a coke, open happiness.” which is only relaying on its brand. There is no proof that coke makes people happy. Coke contains caffeine which makes people more suggestible and switch their opinion more often. Picture C has Taylor Swift in it poring coke. This Ad is using a famous celebrity that people like to make them want to drink this soda. This leads to thoughts from customers such as “If she likes it then I will too” or “she is attractive and drinks that, so I will be attractive too if I drink coke”.

On the first exam I did not do as well as I should have. I went into the first exam with to much confidence and not enough studying. After taking this exam I know how much work I need to put into it before hand. Going forward I will take better quality notes and review for longer and more often than I have before this exam. The exam was a much needed wake up call and I will do much better from here on out.

Music is a big part of everyone’s life. People go to concerts, stream music while working, riding in the car somewhere, and many other times music is being played. There are many different genres of music that people like and they aren’t exclusive to each other. People can enjoy all types such as rap and classical. They have almost nothing in common but people can enjoy both. You’re more likely to find someone with similar values if you meet at a concert for your favorite artist.
In the Hall of the Mountain King is how I see my family as whole. Every day starts off quite and calm but as it goes on the family becomes much more chaotic. At work it’s a much more calm and relaxed time thanks to my boss who is a calm man. Vivaldi’s Four Seasons Winter is how I see work. Flowing from washing to drying dogs as easy as the music flows. I have two distinct friend groups that do not mix with each other. One group would Queens Don’t Stop Me Now. They have a lot of energy and make a lot of quick and unwise decisions that are always up for something crazy.

In Psych 304, we are going to learn about the psychology of the group and the individual, perceive and understand others, how attitudes are formed, how we form bonds with other, and more. I am quite excited to learn about all of this. The way that humans think and work is always fascinating. I am hoping by the end of the semester I will have a firm grasp on how social psychology works. As this is my first semester entirely online, I’m going to have to change how I do things. Setting dates of homework and exams in my calendar is a lot more important. I also have to set my own schedule and make time for all the reading/work. All in all I feel confident that I can pass this class with flying colors as long as I stay on top of the work load!
