Week 4 Journal

  1. Why do entrepreneurs get in trouble with the law?

Entrepreneurs get in trouble with the law when they are not meticulous enough in their implementation of their business plan, and nonchalance might lead them to not following certain regulations their business might have to follow.  This can cause financial troubles as well as jail time depending on the severity and type of infringement.

  • What does psychology have to do with marketing?

By examining marketing through a lens of psychology, marketers are able to think about what people might want from a product and what the best features of the product to try to sell would be.  By knowing what the customers want, they are able to better direct their advertisements towards these features or towards certain demographics.

  • What types of marketing sway my decisions

I am normally most influenced by well-designed products, in an aesthetic sense.  Even if a product is not necessarily the highest quality on the market, I do enjoy being flashy and stylish from time to time.  For example, when I play soccer, I like to wear Adidas even though New Balance is a higher rated product.  This might also come down to the fact that every person is different and Adidas might just feel better to me, but I also like the sleeker design of the Adidas boots over other brands.

  • How can I pitch ideas better?

Practice would be the main thing for me.  I am a pretty good speaker and am personable but I need to just work on my delivery and be able to react to people in real time.

  • What are my strengths and weaknesses in pitching?

My main strengths are that I am personable and I am pretty good at sounding eloquent and making my ideas sound better than they might really be.  My main weakness lies in that I am not always very adept at thinking on fly so when somebody asks questions that I am not prepared for, I stutter and freeze up.
