- What are the connections between the disciplines addressing entrepreneurship at ODU?
Many of the disciplines addressing entrepreneurship at ODU are in the school of business. They also focus on the future after students graduate from ODU and how they can stay connected to be more successful.
- Is entrepreneurship an art or science?
It is both in a sense. There is no one algorithm for success in entrepreneurship, but there are certain steps that are common to all ventures. The art comes in the form of adding your own personal twist to make your product or your idea or your business stand out from the crowd. In reality, standing out might be one of the biggest catapults to success, because people will pay attention to something that stands out.
- How is failure good?
Failure is good because it allows us to learn from the mistakes we make. While failure is not a completely good thing, because we are always aiming for success, each failure acts as another stepping stone towards success.
- What have I learned from failing?
I used to go to Penn State, and I did not do well in my studies there. From that failure I learned that I really needed to buckle down and be mature, and not just party all the time. I am still working on this and I still fail sometimes. I know that I won’t always succeed but I know even more that I can just pretend things don’t exist and I can’t shut out my responsibilities and I will continue to work on this throughout my life.
- What ethical issues might arise related to what I am working on?
In anything there is an ethical debate of how I am helping and how I am harming. In many cases, there are winners and there are losers, and sometimes it is about making sure the losers aren’t too heavily affected. Sometimes we want the losers to lose, such as in the case of anti-malware products.
