1. Strength my communication and problem-solving skills in a healthcare environment
   Effective communication and problem-solving are crucial skills in any healthcare setting, and I am excited to improve these skills further during my internship. As my first goal, I aim to improve my ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, healthcare providers, and fellow administrative staff. I expect to achieve this goal by assisting in patient care coordination. I will focus on listening actively to understand the needs of patients and families, and I will practice resolving conflicts or concerns in a way that fosters collaboration and positive outcomes. Additionally, I will work on improving my written communication skills by assisting with patient documentation, reporting, and email correspondence.
2. Gain a better understanding of health administration in home health and hospice settings
   Getting a thorough grasp of health administration, particularly as it relates to hospice and home healthcare, is my second goal. I hope to deepen my knowledge of how healthcare services are managed outside of traditional hospital settings, focusing on patient care coordination, regulatory compliance, and operational challenges specific to home healthcare and hospice. To achieve this goal, I will take an active role in shadowing my preceptor, Alexis, who handles both patient care and administrative duties. I plan to observe and ask questions about how home health and hospice agencies navigate compliance with state and federal regulations. Additionally, I will seek out opportunities to assist with documentation, data management, and other administrative tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the agency, ultimately allowing me to gain firsthand experience in a home health and hospice setting.
3. Develop skills in human service management within healthcare
   My final goal is to enhance my skills in human resources management within the healthcare industry. Human service management focuses on providing direct support to patients and their families, ensuring that they receive comprehensive care and services that improve their quality of life. In this internship, I want to gain hands-on experience in the coordination and delivery of patient services. I plan to achieve this by observing how the organization addresses the emotional, social, and practical needs of patients and families. I will also learn about community resources and how they are integrated into patient care plans.
