During my first 100 hours as an intern at James River Home Health (JRHH), I have had the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic team of healthcare professionals. My role has primarily focused on supporting the operational aspects of the organization through patient care coordination, documentation management, and quality assurance tasks. My interactions within the organization have been diverse, ranging from collaborative discussions with team members to direct communication with patients. Through these experiences, I’ve learned how to navigate professional relationships in a healthcare setting and how to balance the needs of both patients and healthcare providers. My duties as an intern have ranged across various administrative tasks aimed at ensuring the smooth functioning of the organization. These tasks included notifying physicians about missed visits and assisting in the preparation and distribution of hospice medication lists. One significant responsibility I undertook was conducting quality assurance calls to patients and their families. These calls were aimed at evaluating patient satisfaction with the care they were receiving, identifying potential areas for improvement, and ensuring that patient needs were being met.
Throughout the first 100 hours, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and practical skills in several areas. First, my understanding of healthcare administration has deepened, particularly in the context of home health and hospice care. I have learned the critical importance of documentation in maintaining continuity of care and ensuring regulatory compliance. In terms of skills, I have significantly improved my communication abilities, both in written and verbal forms. I’ve also gained experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, becoming more proficient at data entry and ensuring compliance with organizational standards. Overall, my first 100 hours at JRHH have provided a solid foundation in healthcare administration. The hands-on experience has not only enhanced my technical skills but also improved my ability to navigate the interpersonal aspects of healthcare, all of which are crucial for a successful career in health services administration.
