Protocol
My evaluation will include 2 methods: interviews and observation
Observation:
During my observation, I will look to see how staff and volunteers interact with residents, how residents interact with each other, and look to see if residents appear to be being treated fairly and are being helped when they need it.
Interview:
For my interviews, I will be interviewing staff members, volunteers, and residents.
I will use the following questions for staff and volunteer members:
- What is your role here at the shelter?
- What are your daily responsibilities?
- What is the protocol for helping clients once they come into the shelter to aid them in finding more permanent housing?
- What is the protocol for receiving residents into the shelter? Is there a waiting list? If there is a waiting list, how long do residents typically have to wait before receiving a spot at the shelter?
- How long do residents typically stay at the shelter before finding more permanent housing?
- Do you have many repeat residents?
- What types of services are provided to residents to help them get back on their feet and find more permanent housing? Are there any services provided once they leave the shelter to help them remain in permanent housing?
I will use the following questions for residents:
- How has your overall experience at the shelter been?
- Have the staff and volunteers been helpful?
- Have you participated in any programs to help in finding more permanent housing? If so, did you find them helpful?
- Was it difficult for you to get a spot at the shelter? If there was a waiting list how long were you on it before receiving a spot in the shelter?
* The only change made from the original protocol to this final was the removal of the original plan to conduct a record review in addition to the two methods discussed in the final. The two above methods proved sufficient for my evaluation.
