Mid-Semester Reflection

Crisana Poquiz Mid-Semester Reflection

In high school I had my heart set on getting away from home to attend college. I was not as involved in high school because I had moved schools my freshman year during the pandemic COVID-19 and had a really hard time making friends because of this. As this is my first year at Old Dominion University, having to commute to school everyday, I definitely was bitter about the fact I still live at home with my family. The first two weeks were really hard for me socially because nobody in my classes really wanted to talk. However, as I went on through the semester I started joining clubs and going to the gym. Joining clubs such as the Filipino American Student Association and the Vietnamese Student Association allowed me to have something to look forward to and is also how I met some of my close friends. Also, going to the gym has really helped me not only to take care of my body, but to relieve stress as well. Reflecting on the semester so far I have made new friends, connections, and have built better habits for myself to succeed. I have surpassed my expectations because I am involved, maintaining good grades, and have made many new friends! I have been working really hard to maintain good grades to hopefully one day get accepted into the DPT program. I have tried many new study strategies such as active recall and “teaching” concepts to peers. Although I am still adjusting to college, I believe if I continue to work hard then everything will be okay!
