About Me

I am a senior at Old Dominion University and I am majoring in English and Mathematics and minoring in Communication and Psychology. Yes, I know. You’re reading and thinking, “My gosh. She sure is confused.” No, not really, my brain just works a little differently. When I complete my undergraduate degrees, I want to go to graduate school for psychology and become a mental health clinician. “Well, why did you not major in Psychology in the first place?” I did not know I wanted to be a mental health clinician in the first place. When in elementary school, society provides a lot of information on what you could be and then psychology was not a big field and neither was linguistics. Oh, linguistics is my concentration in my English major. People often ask, “Why not be a teacher?” I always respond, “Because I’ll fight a kid.” I have no qualms with saying that either. I want to be in a position and a place where I can assist people in healing and begin making better choices so that we can have a better world over all. Am I looking for world peace? Not really, conflict, healthy conflict, is great. It makes you grow. That is where this Critical Theory class comes into play. The lessons taught over the semester have required me to view literature and situations from a different place and use the experience and words of other theorists and pieces of scholarship to form new views. I have also had to learn how to discover new lenses in which to evaluate what has already been evaluated and bring to light new ideas to discuss.
