Criminal Justice involves every type of crime or illegal action. This includes cyber-crime and other technologies. Computers have been integrated into our lives very heavily over the past twenty to thirty years. With these advancements certain actions need to be taken to prevent criminals from doing illegal activities without any repercussions. With the Neutralization Theory which talks about individuals knowing right from wrong there were five neutralizations. These five were Denial of injury, Denial of victim, Denial of responsibility, Appeal to higher royalties, and Condemnation of condemners. These are all defined in ways that separate why and how cybercrime is handled. Along with these is also self-control and learning theory. Learning theory suggests that criminals learn how to commit crime through interactions with others. They learn the reasons and motives for committing the crime. A big problem between criminal Justice and Cyber-crime is measuring victimization and offending. Data shows that illegal downloads across the country stood at 47.4%. There is a massive amount of unreported cyber-crimes like these downloads or sexting that may go unseen or considered when used later in a major offense involving something like hacking. I like to compare this overlap to something like the SCADA systems and engineers last module. The SCADA systems need a routine maintenance and check from the engineers, or something will go wrong. If this measurement isn’t taken or there aren’t any repercussions for stuff going wrong fixing the issues will not be seen as a priority. SCADA systems are extremely important because some things controlled by them are heavy machinery and can result in loss of life. If Engineers do their job well and efficient the less problems will come up. Computers and technology are only going to become a bigger part of our lives so it is important that we continue to create guidelines and procedures for security and this includes criminal justice.
