Review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and explain how each level relates to your experiences with technology. Give specific examples of how your digital experiences relate to each level of need
When talking about cyber security and the human mind it is important that we learn how to distinguish our wants and needs and their levels of importance. This is where Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs comes in. It stems from basic needs, psychological needs and finally self-fulfillment needs. This can be used for anything including cyber-security. For Physiological need I get very anxious if I do not have my phone or internet access for an extended period of time. It is something that I have had access to my entire life and has allowed me to communicate with others. Next would be security which is something that I personally really pay attention to. Ultimately it is what I am pursuing here at college. Security needs are a big reason I elected to get a Mac instead of a PC due to the vulnerabilities and closed source of Windows compared to the open-source Unix operating system of Apple products. Macs are much less susceptible to viruses compared to PCs because of this. Like I said in my example of physiological needs technology for me is important due to the communication with others. In particular, people I know and care about. This can be extended to using things like Instagram for me and communicating with other my age. Self-actualization with technology can be broad. For me it involves things like gaming and creating videos. Being at the top of the hierarchy involves all of the things that are below it from the devices like phones, computers, and game consoles. I hope that my self-actualization will turn into one of my jobs that involve technology. Learning from school and getting a degree add on to this.
