Sports in my opinion are something that should bring people together. Yes, while competing and being a fan things get heated but at the end of day no matter the sport it’s a game and it should bring people together. With sports being people together they can also bring people together for specific causes whether that be fighting cancer or a tragic event that happened. In 2020 I believe in my lifetime the most prominent examples were shown in sports. With the pandemic sports were shut down for a period of time resuming late that year sports had a lot to say about what happened throughout the pandemic. In 2020 the BLM movement emerged as social injustice was shown all over the country which forced the sports world to step in and show their support and show the world where they stand. Most notable of these stands being in the NBA bubble. With an incident happening in Wisconsin the NBA was scheduled to play. The Bucks and Magic were scheduled to play a game when they decided to boycott the game in protest against the social injustice in play with the incident in Wisconsin. The NBA would put Black Lives Matter play and center on every court throughout the rest of their season showing their stance against social injustice in America. In multiple games NBA players would take knees during the national anthem and many of them would put quotes on their jerseys or the names of victims of social injustice in America. In my lifetime the stance the NBA made against social injustice in America is something I still think about today about how they did not hide from it and just play basketball.
