Learning Style

STEP 1: EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS

  1. Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?

My current method of studying would be reading my notes over and over and reciting them to myself making sure I understand the information. I study for each class by referring to my notes and doing some additional research.

  1. What specific techniques do you use in class?  The specific technique I use in class is active listening and repeating the words in my head after the instructors says it.
  2. What specific techniques do you use outside of class?  Specific techniques I use outside of class would be repetition of me reading my notes and doing extra research on it
  3. Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101).   What study methods work best and why? One class I a doing well in other than HLTH 101 would be intro to chem. For me the study method that works best is reviewing, repetition, and extra review

STEP 2: IDENTIFY AND APPLY NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES

  • Identify one class (other than HLTH 101) where you are experiencing challenges and address the following questions.

  • Planning: The strategies I will use to study are study groups, challenging myself with practice quizzes, and going to office hours for review sessions.
  • I plan on studying for 45 minutes a day for each subject.
  •  I plan on studying the chapters and notes I took in class and looking over the power points from class
  • The materials I should spend more time on are the ones we went over in class and try to understand the things I don’t understand

Monitoring:

  • Taking a 10-minute review session after I study to make sure I thoroughly understand the materials
    • By going to the student success center and going to tutoring sessions
    • I am not struggling with my motivation to study because when I study, I study hard
    • I haven’t had any confusions but if I did I would either email my instructor or go to their office hours and figure it out.
    • I don’t have any confusions that remain but if I did, I would try to use my resources I have here on campus
  • Evaluating
    • For the next exam I should study and read through my exam thoroughly and not overwork myself
    • Something I won’t do for the next exam is try and cram in all my information and underestimate myself
    •
  • Review at least 5 academic tips/resources listed here: https://www.odu.edu/success/academic/tips. Which 5 tips did you review, and what is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material?

I reviewed set priorities, overcome procrastination, before the test tips, during the test tips, and get organized.  One new technique I will use is getting organized and planning out when I’m going to do upcoming assignments

  • What is one new technique you could try outside of class to help you better understand the material?

One new technique I will use outside of class would be overcoming procrastination so that I can get the job done and making sure I got the extra mile to get the work done
