I believe that the course objectives outlined in the course syllabus are very important. They promise research and theory that will help define the influence of culture. This will be first-hand experience with psychological reports and experiments, which is beneficial. In addition to the exposure aspect, the course objectives emphasize that the course will create not only an understanding and appreciation for cultural difference, but this understanding can be used to then in turn successfully interact with other cultures. Finally, an objective of the course is centered on the development of critical thinking skills and using those skills and applying them to the field of psychology and, after-all, that is the purpose of studying psychology in college.
My expectations for this course are mostly satisfied by the predicted course outcomes. I expected to hone my existing understanding of cultural differences and garner additional appreciations of other cultures. I expected to learn how the psychological concepts that I have studied and learned about in my culture can apply to an Southeastern Asian culture. I am also expecting to gain information that will help me in my understanding of all concepts found within the field of psychology.
Some strategies that I will have to implement in order to be successful in this class are time management and self-control. I am learning that a complete online course load is an entirely different learning experience and possibly one that presents a conflict with my traditional learning habits. I must emphasize an organized schedule and a need to complete assignments in a time considered manner.
