Parallel Major

My Parallel Major is Psychology.

I chose psychology as my parallel major because my father majored in psychology during college and became a licensed therapist. When I was a young girl, I would go to work with him, and sometimes be allowed to sit in and listen to sessions. The study of psychology also is interesting to me, and I find it intriguing to discover why think the way they think or explain people’s behavior. I also feel like psychology would be easy to study and I can definitely see myself being successful with a psychology degree.

Wilhelm Wundt is the father of psychology. He opened the Institute for Experimental Psychology at the University of Leipzig in Germany in 1879.

You can be an Industrial-organizational psychologist. With that career, you will use psychological principles and research methods to solve problems in the workplace and improve the quality of life.

If I was to pursue this major, I would have to take classes that directly correspond with psychology like intro to psych. Then I would have to continue taking classes like social psychology, human cognition, health psychology, etc. I could gain professional experience from this area of study helping a professor do research on a study. My college advisor would be Brittany Shearer.
