- Describe your Diversity course/experience
For my sophomore year, during the spring semester of 2020 I took the course World Religions: Beliefs & Values (PHIL 250E). In this class, we spoke about the difference between different religions and what their core belief and values may be. Along with this, we did research on different articles that pertained to what we discussed in class. One of the assignment we did was doing research on a religion that wasn’t ours. I decided to do my assignment essay on the Buddhism. Another assignment was discussing our own views on religion and our upbringing on it.
- Examples of work you did in this course/experience (e.g., a paper, presentation, photos, video, link to another site you created, etc.).

- Explanation of and reflection on the evidence you provided from this course/experience.
The evidence I was able to provide from this course would be a paper I wrote discussing my experience with religion and how I grew up on it. This assignment was completed in the beginning of the course. A couple of months afterwards, we did an assignment where we had to research a religion that was different from the one we had. With this, I researched the religion of Buddhism. One of the key things I remember from doing research would be, Buddhist believe that having good behavior is a way to achieve enlightenment.
- Discuss one or more of the ‘Skills that Employers are Seeking’ that you further developed through this course/experience.
Taking World Religions: Beliefs & Values (PHIL 250E) has allowed me to gain skill set in gaining more customer service skills when it comes to working with those from with different religious backgrounds than myself. Communication and listening skills as well, working along my potential coworkers who may come from different background, they can provide me with new information that I hadn’t known of previously.
- An explanation of how this experience might relate to your future goals or develop your interpersonal skills.
The experience I gained by taking this course allowed me to have the information to be more culturally aware specifically when it comes to religions. In the future, I know that there are certain things that those apart of religions do and don’t do. For example, a person who is a Jehovah’s Witness doesn’t except blood transfusions. Those apart or worship Judaism do not indulge in eating shellfish. Knowing these things about different religions and cultures will prepare for both working in the hospital and families in the educational setting.
