Students develop products, businesses, social programs, or other innovations that can be used to solve existing problems or capitalize on potential opportunities.
- Description of your Entrepreneurship course/experience.
During my sophomore to junior year of college, I was in a program called Innovate Monarchs. This program only allowed a select few of students to be in it and I am appreciative to say I was apart of this project for two year. The first year, the main goal was to figure out how student would have the ability to build more participation in events on campus and connecting to more clubs and programs. With students participating more, they would be able to earn prizes for attending events. My group members and I named this idea “Reign & Gain”. The second year I was in the program, the newest concept was to figure out how there could be an improved partnership in a productive way for students and staff in order to resolve problems with classroom practices through empathy. My team members and I called this “Monarchs Flipping the Classroom”.
- Examples of work you did in this course/experience (e.g., a paper, presentation, photos, video, link to another site you created, etc.).
In this section, I have included the links to both “Reign & Gain” and “Monarchs Flipping the Classroom”.

- Explanation of and reflection on the evidence you provided from this course/experience.
The evidence that I’ve included provides my expertise and knowledge on knowing how the process of “Design Thinking” works. During this time, you have to be able to use your prior knowledge and team-work skills to get the job done. The design process for this concept consisted of several steps they are: Challenge, Design Thinking, and Prototype. Each portion of this process required us to implement all of our skills in order for us to come up with useful concept.
- Discuss of one or more of the ‘Skills that Employers are Seeking’ (below) that you further developed through this course/experience (Consider using this ODU Career Skills Toolkit for examples of how to talk about these skills).
Throughout my two years being apart of this program, I acquired many skills. These included being having to plan, organize, and prioritize work. This was something that was difficult to do since we were all transitioned to being virtual students and were still getting adjusted to taking all of our classes online. It was also very important for us to gain insight and opinions from students outside of the program, in order for us to figure out what would work.
- An explanation of how this experience might relate to your future goals or develop your interpersonal skills.
How this experience will relate to my future goals would be, having the ability to work with others and create a concept that’ll be beneficial to others. This is something I may have to do with nurses and doctors in a hospital setting when we’re caring for a concept. Not only this, but knowing how the design process works and how different concepts need to be implemented in these steps.
