Reflection Essay #1
When I first attended Mrs. Isenkul’s class, my first impression was that I didn’t need it where I saw my writings as superb. After a while, however, after turning in a few journals and essays I saw that I still had much improvement to master. The first weeks of class was a breeze as the assignments that were given to us were to see if we knew how to use such things like exclamation marks, quotation marks and commas. To my amazement, I found when I turned in my first essay, that I used too much commas than I needed. My instructor, Mrs. Isenkul, assisted me after class with this issue, and the others that blocked my essay from being a perfect four on the writing placement test. Attending class, I’ve also made many friends that helped me feel comfortable speaking in class. One time in class, we had an assignment where everyone had to pick a facility on the Old Dominion University Campus, and talk about it to the class. Since there wasn’t any specific order to who will present first, the floor was open to whomever wanted to present first. People went up and did a perfect presentation that took only 3 minutes to do, but I was still shaking in my shoes. I was nervous, and never liked being in the spotlight of class. I wouldn’t volunteer or make any eye contact as my instructor would look around for the people who didn’t go. It was then that I had to go as there were no other class time left dedicated to the presentations. My friends that I’ve made from the weeks attending there helped me stand on my feet and encouraged me to walk to the front confidently. Still shaking however, when I turned around getting ready to project my voice so the people in the back listen into my speech, I saw my friends paying attention to me, and giving me the thumbs up, showing their support for me. For the quiet college kid who sat in the back of the class on the first day of class, it was a great six weeks of friendship that I’ve made in the class. I can’t forget to mention that I’ve learned what I needed to work on in class also, such as commas, semi colons, and word choice. I’m very glad that I was able to have a great professor who can help me get transitioned to college writing for my next level English classes. Overall, my experience with attending Transition to College Success class so far is very extraordinary with the people that I’ve met, and the information that I started to learn again. I remember that I came into the class with a big ego telling myself that since I took AP Literature in high school that I didn’t need to be there, when in fact, there is a reason I’m there in the first place. I hope to learn many new things that come my way.Editing Checklist Essay #1
