The semester is about to be finished, and the final exam for UNIV 150 is coming. Comparing myself from the first time I walked into my UNIV 150 class course, to now, I feel that I’ve gained more knowledge. At the first day of the Spring 2017 semester, I felt that I knew everything that had to do with writing essays. I thought that with my experience from taking AP Language and AP Literature in high-school, that I wouldn’t need the UNIV 150 class. However, from taking the course I’ve gained so much knowledge that was either forgotten, or I assumed I knew of. When my teacher, Mrs. Isenkul, told us to create our own WordPress sites to post our performance, my first reaction was that this was a waste of time. I didn’t expect, however, that it would be very useful in improving my essay writing. Looking back at my previous essays and their Microsoft editing checklist, I can see what I’ve improved on and what I need to focus on to make my writings appeal to the audience. I can see that my main issue is still the clarity and syntax portion of my overall essays that I’ve turned in. Not only does the essays editing checklist serve as a helpful way to improve myself, but also it’s a great academic motivation or encouragement so that I can see how far I’ve gone in my way to becoming a well-skilled writer in college. My senior friends here at Old Dominion University told me that it’s only going to get harder from here, and they’re correct on that statement, which is the reason why my essays must improve before I take another step towards my bachelors degree, because if not, I’ll be not ready for what’s to come in my future semesters. The journals we write in class, campus, and homes are beneficial to our performance as well, as they serve to be a good practice before writing our essays. When we are confident that our academic writing skills are perfect, we can then test that theory by writing journals, to see where we really stand, according to a writing professional (i.e., teachers, professors, etc.). Editing Checklist Essay #4
