Reflection Essay #2
Editing Checklist Essay #2 Before taking the midterm exam for UNIV 150 I felt extremely nervous of my performance. I just had my essay number two graded a few days prior to the midterm exam, and from comparing it to my classes essay number one, my writing skills dropped on the clarity and syntax. Having said that I was worried that I would repeat the same mistakes again on my midterm exam. It was until during my UNIV 150 class that my teacher, Mrs. Isenkul, taught us how to plan out our writing so that we would know what to write about. I found this very helpful, as from time to time, I would find myself, as my high-school AP Literature teacher, Mrs. Knuckles, would call it, “Hit and Running,” which is when a student would keep writing without planning ahead. When I took the midterm exam I read all the prompts that were given, and started planning as if it were second nature. I found that when I planned ahead, I saw how my ideas connected rather than it being all over the place in my essays. When I received my score back after a few weeks from taking the midterm exam, I felt so relieved to see my score. I scored high on everything except for one which was clarity and syntax. I looked at the marking made on my turned in copy of my midterm exam essay, and saw what I have done wrong. One issue, from the beginning of class, is that I would write in informal language. I asked one of my honor graduate friends from high school, in which they replied that they always noticed how my writings sounded informal. From this experience I knew I had to make a change in my writings so that my points can get across. I’ve done research looking at more professional tones words, including more transition words to use in my future essays. The final exam for my UNIV 150 class is about to start soon, and my confidence level is at a 95 percent. The reason why it’s not a 100 percent level of confidence is because, with my limited word choice knowledge from my childhood to high-school not reading enough books to capture more of a word choice variety, I feel that I may make small mistakes and use some informal words scattered around the final exam.
