The four majors that relate to cybersecurity at ODU are criminal justice, computer engineering, computer science, and information technology. A main contributing factor helped me decide to include these four against other majors. This factor is that they all contribute courses to the cybersecurity major. Computer engineering combines both electrical engineering aspects for computer hardware as well as courses from computer science which delivers the software capability. Including computer science with computer engineering, these two majors contribute to an infrastructures safety and reliability when an attack occurs on the server. Whether the attack is on the software to retrieve information or to disable the servers, how the computer/hardware/software is built and the safety measures included will help defend against these attacks. The information systems and technology major gives a business oriented view and technical skills to help them in the ever evolving world of business technology. This relates to cybersecurity in the way of how technology is always changing and in turn, hackers are always finding new ways to hack systems and new defense systems and techniques must evolve and be implemented at the same if not a faster rate. Cybersecurity doesn’t just relate to governments or businesses, but also to everyday people who use cellphones, laptops, or any device that connects to the internet. All of these devices need to be protected from anyone who may want to access their information or destroy it. The final major that I chose is criminal justice. In this day and age, a large field that is growing rapidly is cybersecurity. This relates directly to the criminal justice field because with an increase in security, there is also an increase in attacks that need to be prevented or fought against. These four majors largely impact and contribute to the cybersecurity field and vice-versa.
